The South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Expert Rigging Training (OHStraining) announced today the first launch of an accredited course to become a certified rigging technician.

The highly anticipated Expert Rigging Training course has been developed in collaboration with the CSIR to support key players in the shipbuilding industry to meet international standards as well as to ensure workplace safety and mitigate liability.

The course, which is open to those working in the shipbuilding and offshore industries as well as marine professionals, will be available from 1 May 2018 at the CSIR’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre (AMTC).

The course meets International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the Recognised Organisation (RO) requirements and is aligned with international standards identified by the SA Department of Transport:

The Approved Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Repair of Rope, Wire Rope and Cable. It is also supported by SA Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) Subpart MB (Ropes, Cables and Wire Ropes), Clause 7.3.1 (B).
