Hazchem is a general term used locally to cover any chemical that presents a health & safety risk during transportation, handling or storage. The course provides practical hands-on experience in identifying hazards, safe handling, use, storage and disposal.

All our instructors are qualified practitioners through the Health and Safety Training Association of South Africa. They are also Hazchem First Aiders, fully trained in managing patients with chemical injuries.

Mitana College course fees and duration:
·Hazchem Awareness – 1 Day Course – 8 Hours Training – 1 Assessment – Essential basic level training, covers the identified Hazardous Substances, their characteristics, risks and basic control measures.
Mitana College runs a number of courses that can help individuals and companies to become a Hazchem Competent Person. These courses are divided into two types:
Hazchem for Operators – These courses have been designed to assist people who have a direct role in controlling an emergency situation involving hazardous chemicals.
Students learn the requirements of the Hazardous Chemical Regulations as found in the HSNO Act, as well as practical solutions on how to handle emergency situations.
Hazchem for Supervisors – Supervisors have a responsibility for ensuring that those who work at their workplace are competent persons. They also have a responsibility for ensuring that all training is up to date and that the records are available at the workplace.
Mitanan students will be able to assist supervisors in gaining practical understanding on how to meet their legal obligations.
