We operate in the fire safety industry for over 35 years now. We are proud to say that we have trained over 500 000 people in the last 20 years. Our Fire Safety Training Course is based on the South African National Standard SANS 10400 which is implemented by all the major employers in the fire safety industry here in South Africa.

Fire Safety Training is very important for our children and staff at Mitana School. We wanted to ensure that our staff were trained in the correct way of fire safety.

Leading on from this, we also had an on-site training for the children at the school.
We chose to train on-site so that the children can learn by actually practicing on some of the equipment available at the school.

We felt this was necessary because after the training, the teachers would be more comfortable explaining to their learners about fire safety.

The training involved staff and learners from Grade R to Grade 7. We had all the learners line up in rows while Emile explained about fire safety. They were able to see how smoke detectors work, open a fire exit door and put out a real fire with a fire extinguisher.

The children learnt a lot from this experience and were very enthusiastic throughout the session. I think this is a great initiative that every school should provide for their learners.

The fire industry is not about only extinguishing fires, it’s also about prevention. A fire is caused by unprotected risk, which means that it can be prevented if risk is properly assessed. Every year, more than 20% of the fires that are started is due to negligence. Learning to prevent this kind of fire can save lives, businesses and properties.

The Mitana School Fire Safety Team is highly experienced, fully accredited and the best in the market. We are all professionals with experience ranging from 10 years to more than 30 years in the industry. Our courses are highly interactive which makes the training fun for our students.

Training is done in our training facility in Cape Town during weekdays 8h30 – 16h00 (bookings can be made at other times on request).
