Unlike other Drill Rig Training in South Africa , we provide our students with real work experience as part of their course. Therefore, our students gain the required skills and knowledge as well as job opportunities as they complete the program.

The work placements are supported by our industry partners such as Sasol, Exxaro and Judson Minerals, who employ students during training and once they have completed the program.

To address the shortage of skilled rig personnel in South Africa, Mitana Drill Rig Training embarked on a training program that gives students hands-on experience in an industry recognized training environment.

Our training rig is made up of 2x 250HP motor/generators and 4x 175HP compressors mounted on a trailer. Students have the opportunity to engage in a simulated drilling environment, while receiving structured training.

The rig is fixed at a depth of 600mm and a maximum speed of 10m/min. It enables students to operate critical equipment that enable critical decisions to be made while operating a rig on a daily basis.

Mitana School of Engineering is accredited by NQF level 5 (ISO 17024) and can offer you training for your Drill Rig Operator Certificate (SAQA) recognition.

Drill Rig Training (DST) was intended for personnel of new and existing Drill Rig, Drill Pipe and Fluid Service companies. The DST program is designed to provide an opportunity for core personnel of drilling contractors, drill rig operators, drill pipe fabricators, drill pipe technicians, wireline technicians, Tubing/Tubing Servicing (TTS), wireline services (WLS), supply & service (S&S) companies, drilling fluid companies and associated vendors of the drilling industry to improve their current proficiency in regard to their positions. Training Methodology
Our world-class instructors work with you to develop professional skills that will help you become more efficient on the job. Our courses are delivered on Rollover Drilling Rigs, on the Offshore Rigs or Onsite at our Training Facility. This is minimized risk while maximizing your time in the classroom.

We have workshops spread across Durban, Centurion, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. During the training students will be introduced to the principles of task management, team leadership, analysis of information and basic problem solving techniques.
